In case you have not spent the last few days living under a rock you will know by now that AI-darling Nvidia (NVDA) is reporting its quarterly earnings tonight after the closing bell.
NVDA has always been a very fine company, first specialising in graphic cards for a rapidly growing (video) gaming industry and later expanding into an equally rapidly expanding crypto-mining sector.
But things really took off for NVDA a little over a year ago, upon the release by OpenAI’s ChatGPT-3 and as the world become to know the AI potential.
In terms of market cap, NVDA is today (before earnings…) the third most valuable company by market on this earth (see top chart), just behind almighty Micrsoft (MSFT) and Apple (AAPL).
However, in terms of market cap growth, NVDA has clearly taken the lead over the past 12 months (see bottom chart).
